Designing the second outpost for one of Mumbai’s most esteemed hospitality brands posed a significant challenge due to the unique characteristics of the site.
Situated on an L-shaped ground floor location with imposing columns dividing the space, our design task was twofold: establish a clear directional flow for the space and mitigate the visual impact of the massive columns.
In response to this challenge, the design scheme introduced a bold and innovative solution using doubly curved spiralling stainless steel tubes. These sleek and dynamic elements were
strategically positioned to spring from the face of one column and extend towards the opposite face of another column, creating an elegant and visually captivating gesture that served as a directional datum for the space.
The spiralling form of the stainless steel tubes not only added a sense of movement and fluidity to the space but also effectively reduced the perceived mass of the columns, visually lightening their presence. This architectural intervention served a dual purpose: it established a clear visual guide that led users from the beginning to the end of the space, while also imbuing the environment with a sense of sophistication and modernity.
As visitors navigate through the space, they are intuitively guided along the path defined by the spiralling stainless steel tubes, creating a seamless and engaging journey through the hospitality venue.
The dynamic interplay of light and shadow on the curved surfaces further enhances the visual impact of the design, creating a captivating and memorable experience for patrons.
The design successfully addressed the challenges posed by the site’s layout and structural constraints by introducing a visually striking and functionally effective solution. The use of doubly curved spiralling stainless steel tubes established a clear directional flow within the space elevating the overall experience for visitors to the second outpost of this esteemed hospitality brand in Mumbai.
